NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – As Tropical Storm Debby churns up the East Coast, New Hanover County Fire Rescue is getting their emergency vehicles prepared to face whatever Debby may bring.

“We’re trying to get some resources moved around to places we think we’re going to need them based on our experience from other storms as well as what we expect from this storm,” Battalion Chief Michael Pinson said.

Pinson said high water rescue trucks are stationed on the South and North ends of New Hanover County.

NHCFR also has inflatable boats, Jon boats, and other safety equipment ready to go in case of severe flooding.

While crews are ready to jump into action, they are asking neighbors to do their part as well.

“Turn around, don’t drown. Don’t drive through flooded roads. If you can stay at home, stay at home. Wait until the storm passes and the flooding passes so that we can concentrate our resources on the folks that may need our help,” he said.

As Debby continues to tear through the South East, Chief Pinson says you can never be too prepared.

“Treat every storm like it’s going to be bad because you want to be prepared for the worst and then hope for the best. That way you’re more prepared,” he explained.
