WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – New Hanover County is inviting the community to volunteer for the Senior Resource Center’s Home Delivered Meals Program.

The program serves over 650 adults ages 60 and older who face food insecurity and isolation. The meals address their nutritional needs and let them say hi to the volunteers to fight off the isolation sometimes common among older adults.

Volunteer drivers are sought on Monday through Friday, and volunteers can participate on days that work with their schedule. The county also needs substitute drivers to fill in when needed, and routes take about 2 hours to complete, though the exact route length varies.

“Volunteers are provided with a GPS-enabled smartphone to assist with routes, directions, and sequencing. Drivers pick up the meals and delivery bags at the Senior Resource Center (2222 S. College Road, Wilmington) between 9:30-10:30 a.m., Monday through Friday,” a county announcement states.
