WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The New Hanover County Board of Education will consider adding anti-choking equipment to schools, discuss repairs at New Hanover High School and more at its meeting on Tuesday, July 2.
The board may vote on adding LifeVac access to all schools in the district along with training on how to use it. The anti-choking device clears the airway, and it reportedly only takes five minutes to train a person how to use the device.
A presentation to be shown to board members says that the 102-year-old New Hanover High School main building has had over 750 maintenance requests in the 2023-2024 school year, compared to about 215 requests at Ashley. The building also has 86 entry and exit doors, non-functioning bathrooms with missing stall doors, falling ceiling tiles, visibly moldy ceiling titles and more.
Other topics include first readings of policies regarding foreign exchange students and emergency administration of Naloxone, along with staff responsibilities and selection of instructional materials.
