WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Lifeguards on New Hanover County beaches stayed busy on Saturday.
Despite several red flag warnings issued at beaches, lifeguards still wound up having to make nearly 60 rescues during the day.
The latest numbers released show:
- 30 rescues at Carolina Beach
- 22 rescues at Kure Beach
- 6 rescues at Wrightsville Beach
This totals to almost 60 rescues just on Saturday. Throughout the week, lifeguards reported a total of nearly 90 rescues — not including today’s numbers.
Lifeguards warn everyone that red flag warnings should be taken seriously.
