WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The New Hanover Co. Senior Resource Center on July 19 announced the creation of the Older Adult Resource Guide on its website.

“The Older Adult Resource Guide aims to simplify finding essential services and support systems for the county’s aging population. Healthcare providers, social workers, caregivers, or older adults seeking assistance can use this comprehensive guide to discover resources available throughout the community,” a county announcement states.

The project was started after feedback during the county’s work to make its Master Aging Plan, which included the need for a way to easily find resources that are available to the public alongside contact information.

“As an organization, we are committed to enhancing access to resources specific to the needs of older adults and caregivers, which is what makes the Older Adult Resource Guide such a useful tool,” said Senior Resource Center Director Amber Smith. “This is not a replacement for in-person help and we welcome visitors to the Senior Resource Center or encourage them to call the main line for assistance. This site is an additional way to connect them with resources in a convenient, easy-to-use format.”

The public can join the July Equity Matters panel hosted by NHC Health and Human Services to see a walkthrough of the new service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, via Zoom. The Zoom ID is 924 4152 6680.
