WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A sequel series to the Wilmington-filmed CW series One Tree Hill is in development at Netflix, Deadline is reporting.

Per Deadline, the series is led by Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Daneel Ackles will be executive producers of the show. Bush and Burton will also return as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer. Ackles also had a recurring role in the series as Rachel Gatina.

The show will reportedly take place 20 years after the original show and will follow Bush and Burton’s characters as parents.

The nine-season series began in 2003 following the story of half-brothers Lucas and Nathan, played by Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty.

No word yet on whether any other actors from the original series will return.

The show is also a focal point, for the ‘Drame Queens’ podcast hosted by Bush, Burton, and fellow ‘One Tree Hill’ co-star Bethany Joy Lenz. Each week the host rewatch and chat about an episode of the show.

The show left a significant mark in Wilmington, with prominent locations in the show becoming tourist spots like the One Tree Hill Bridge.
