WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Hundreds of people have taken to social media to share their thoughts on a proposal to build a Dave & Buster’s restaurant and arcade in the Mayfaire area in Wilmington.

Most of the comments on WECT’s Facebook post about the proposal, submitted to the city’s planning department Thursday, have been from people expressing their excitement about possibly having another entertainment option in the Port City.

“I think it would just give another option for families to go have a good time and a good night,” said Wilmington Resident Lindsay Cheshire.

A city spokesperson says the Technical Review Committee is scheduled to review the plans on March 7.

“Following that meeting the applicant will make plan revisions, based on comments received, and resubmit,” the spokesperson said.

While the plan is a long way from getting off the ground, Cheshire and her fellow residents hope it becomes a reality.

“Everyone’s going to have their opinion,” said Cheshire. “I love entertainment. I love playing games and, at the end of the day, if you have another option for you and your kids to go do on the weekend, why not? I think it’s fun.”

If approved, the Mayfaire site would be the fifth Dave & Buster’s location in North Carolina. There is also a location in Myrtle Beach.

Scott Clemons owns Coquina Fishbar, which is just across the street from the proposed Dave & Buster’s location. He thinks it would be a welcome addition to the area.

“Nowadays, a lot of families go to breweries and stuff like that because it’s family welcomed and that’s what they want,” said Clemons. “So, I think Dave & Buster’s will do great because it offers more than just food and drinks. There’s just plenty more to do.”

He says regardless of whether the plan comes to life, Wilmington needs more family-friendly entertainment options.

“I’ve been here for three years and I see a lot of families walking around and spending time together, so I think it will do well,” Clemons said.
