MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – A Myrtle Beach officer caused nearly $60,000 worth of damage when he drove too fast in a beach patrol car, crashing into a pier, according to authorities.

The officer, identified as Justin Falco, was the one behind the wheel when the patrol car crashed into a pylon attached to Pier 14 on North Ocean Boulevard on Dec. 16.

That caused $59,602 in damage to Pier 14, Myrtle Beach spokesperson Mark Kruea said.

According to a South Carolina Highway Patrol report, Falco was “driving too fast for conditions” when he hit the pier.

Falco is still with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

WMBF News asked department spokesperson Cpl. Chris Starling if Falco was ever put on administrative leave after the crash.

Starling said the department does not “typically” discuss disciplinary actions.
