BALD HEAD ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – The NC Utilities Commission will host a public hearing on potential Bald Head Island ferry changes on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m.
BHI Transportation petitioned the commission earlier this year to change the hourly schedule of the passenger ferry to a 90-minute schedule. BHIT explained that, due to the increase in ridership over the past several years, the ferry runs late between 28-45% of the time during the summer. This is after BHIT added more powerful engines to two of the ferries and added an electronic ticketing and reservation system.
However, the village, BHI Club, Bald Head Association, and BHI Academy intervened, saying it believes that a 90-minute passenger ferry schedule does not provide enough capacity to meet the town’s needs.
The public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. on Aug. 13 at the Brunswick County Courthouse, located at 310 Government Center Drive NE, Court Room 2, in Bolivia.
