CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) – A North Carolina man has been convicted of a deadly shooting at a Myrtle Beach-area condo.
The 15th Circuit Solicitor‘s Office said 22-year-old Mitchell Skyes II, of Wingate, pleaded guilty Wednesday to murder. Skyes’s case was linked to a shooting on Hartland Drive in May 2023.

Prosecutors said Skyes shot and killed 23-year-old Jordan Drake and that both men knew each other from the same town in North Carolina.
Officials said both men were friends growing up before they had a falling out sometime before the shooting occurred. Both men were visiting Myrtle Beach and decided to meet up in order to put their differences aside.
That’s when prosecutors said Skyes pulled out a firearm and shot Drake in front of multiple witnesses. Skyes was arrested shortly after the shooting.
A judge sentenced Skyes to 35 years in prison after his guilty plea. The solicitor’s office noted that murder is a “day-for-day crime” meaning Skyes must serve each day of his 35-year sentence before being released.
