PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Moores Creek National Battlefield closed on Aug. 9 due to flooding from Tropical Storm Debby.

The park reopened again to visitors Tuesday morning, Aug. 20, although some trails remain closed as a result of flooding.

“Maintenance staff have placed barricades on trails where floodwaters are still present, including below the Women’s Monument, as well as across the boardwalk and across Moores Creek Bridge,” the announcement from the park states. “Please watch out for the barricades as you walk through the park and do not go around the barricades. However, the main History Trail through the earthworks is accessible, as are the Tar Heel Trail and the Woodpecker Trail.”

The visitor center is also open as of Tuesday.
