Myrtle Beach police said it started as a missing person case on May 11, 2022, when Whiteside had been living with Fogle in the 600 block of 1st Avenue South.

Police said that during the investigation, statements from witnesses revealed that the victim may have been buried near the home in the backyard under a firepit.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the property on June 12 and during the search, the victim’s remains were recovered and identified.

NEIGHBORS REACT

WMBF News spoke with several neighbors who said they had no idea about what happened, and the news came as a complete shock to them.

“I think it’s absolutely bizarre,” said Nikolai Zaitsev. “I mean, you have kids playing at the park here every day, And birthday parties, weddings, et cetera that happen here. And I’m sure nobody around here had a clue about what was actually going on.”

Residents in one Myrtle Beach neighborhood expressed their shock after officials say a missing woman’s remains were found at a nearby home.

“That was a very shocking situation, you know, I’ve never heard about anything like that happening around here,” said Jamie, another neighbor.

After hearing about the case, those neighbors said they hoped justice would be served.

“You’re going to have bad people everywhere. I’m glad they got him, and hopefully they’ve got enough to get a conviction,” said Jamie.

“I hope the man stays where he’s at,” said Zaitsev. “I hope they get more information about the details and about what happened.”

In a statement, the Myrtle Beach Police Department called Whiteside’s death “a tragic loss of life and a senseless crime of violence.”

The Horry County Coroner’s Office has not released a cause of death in the case.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department thanked the U.S. Marshals Service and the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety for helping with the arrest in the case.
