WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Wilmington Police Department officers responded to the scene of reported gunfire near 900 N. 10th Street on Friday, Aug. 16.

Per the WPD, officers saw a man walk into a house upon arrival, and they established a perimeter and made sure nearby residents were cleared.

The WPD says officers called via loudspeakers for the man to get out, and he eventually exited with his hands up and was taken into custody and identified as 33-year-old Anthony Lee Brown from Wilmington.

On Monday, Aug. 19, the WPD announced the charges that Brown is facing:

  • Possession of a weapon of mass destruction
  • Discharge firearm in a reckless manner
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Manufacture/sell/distribute controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school
  • Two counts of possession with intent to M/S/D Schedule I controlled substance
  • Three counts of possession with intent to M/S/D Schedule II controlled substance
  • Possession with intent to M/S/D Schedule IV controlled substance
  • Possession with intent to M/S/D marijuana
  • Maintain vehicle/dwelling with controlled substances
  • Felony possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Misdemeanor larceny

He’s being held at the county jail under a $1.5 million bond.

“This is an ongoing investigation with charges expected. Additional updates will be provided as they become available,” a WPD announcement states.
