RALEIGH, N.C. (WECT) – Charles Elliott Brown, a 30-year-old from Bolton, was sentenced in federal court on June 28 on charges including possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

He was sentenced to 21 years in prison and three years of federal supervised release.

“The case began on November 1, 2021, when the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Mr. Brown. The vehicle’s tags were registered to another individual. During the stop, deputies discovered two firearms concealed in the glove box, one of which was reported stolen from Bladen County. Mr. Brown was arrested and charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Driving While License Revoked, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. He was released on bond the same day,” a CCSO announcement states.

Brown was arrested on January 10, 2022, on failure to appear warrants and for four counts of sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, three counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, deliver schedule II controlled substance, possession of firearm by a felon and parole violation.

“While in custody for the Parole Violation in Craven County, NC, Mr. Brown was transported to Columbus County on August 23, 2023, where he was served with federal warrants. He made his first appearance in Federal Court in Wilmington, NC, on August 25, 2023. Mr. Brown waived his right to a bond hearing, remaining in federal custody until he pled guilty to the federal charges,” the announcement continues.
