WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue found a boat washed ashore still in gear at around 5-6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, according to NC Wildlife Resources Commission Sgt. Clayton Ludwick.
Ocean rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard were able to contact the wife of the owner, 69-year-old Robert Roy from Wilmington, to determine that he had been on the boat.
Ludwick says that it is believed he was in the water for four hours before they found him; he had fallen off the boat while attempting to urinate. He was not injured in the fall.
Roy was charged with boating while impaired after he was found.
