Man arrested for drug possession charges following traffic stop

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A man was arrested after officers found more than 30 grams of crystal meth in his car.

Wilmington police stopped Walter McPherson III, 42, of Wilmington in the North Kerr Avenue and Birchwood Drive area for a tag light and seatbelt violation on Thursday night.

Police found more than 30 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine, more than a gram of crack cocaine, dosage units of Xanax, and fentanyl.

McPherson III was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, PWIMSD cocaine, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, possession of schedule IV controlled substance, maintain vehicle/dwelling controlled substance, possession of synthetic cannabinoid, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McPherson III is being held at the NHSO Detention Center without bond.
