Lumberton shooting leaves 18-year-old in ‘extremely critical condition’

LUMBERTON, N.C. (WMBF) – Lumberton police are investigating a shooting that left an 18-year-old in “extremely critical condition,” according to officers.

Police responded just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday to the 200 block of Lee Circle where they found the teen had been shot. The 18-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital.

During the investigation, investigators were checking the surrounding areas to try and find the shooter or witnesses when shots were fired at them.

Police said two people saw investigators enter the Holly Ridge Apartment complex and that’s when they started shooting.

The three investigators were not hurt in the shooting and none of the officers fired their weapons.

Investigators saw a car leave the area that they believed the shooters may have been in and provided a description to patrol officers.

Officers saw a car fitting the description which kicked off a chase that ended on Highway 701 in Whiteville, N.C.

All three people inside the car were taken into custody, but it was determined none of them were involved in the shooting of the 18-year-old and did not shoot at investigators. The three people do face charges in relation to the chase.
