Wilmington
The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) will host a Veterans Day ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11. The university and the Office of Military Affairs will honor those who served. The ceremony will be at the UNCW Amphitheater, followed by a luncheon in the Clocktower lounge.
Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) hosted its Veterans Day Ceremony on Veterans Day in the courtyard behind Union Station, 502 N Front St.
The event featured speakers representing several different branches of the military, as well as a CFCC student. The school also hosted a free lunch for veterans after the ceremony.
Leaders with CFCC’s veteran services department say today’s celebration was meant to emphasize the efforts of veterans both during and after their military service.
A free lunch will be provided after for veterans in the Bob Philpott Veterans Center, located on the first floor of Union Station.
According to CFCC, the ceremony schedule is as follows:

- “Reading of ‘I am a Veteran’ – Eman Mohammed, United States Army National Guard.
- “Service Hymns – Mr. Bob Philpot, United States Coast Guard, Retired.
- “Southeastern North Carolina Chapter of the Military Officers Association.
- “Student Speaker – Marcus Abraham, Student Veteran Organization, United States Marine Corps and Army Veteran.

Leland
Veterans from Leland, Belville, Navassa, Northwest and nearby communities are invited to a breakfast to honor them for their service on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
The breakfast will be held at the Leland Cultural Arts Center in Leland, at 8:30 a.m.
Belville
The Town of Belville will host its Veterans Day Celebration of Service at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the Veterans Memorial at Riverwalk Park. The event is open to everyone and will include:
- Mrs. Joyce Swift presenting the Town of Belville with a gift in honor of veterans
- Guest speakers, including local leaders and veterans
- Recognizing those who served through tributes and songs performed by Chris McKinley and Mary Curry
“Our Veterans Day celebration is a small way for us to express our deepest gratitude to the men and women who have bravely served our country,” said Mayor Mike Allen. “Their commitment and sacrifice are the foundation of our freedom, and it’s our privilege to honor them together as a community. This day is dedicated to celebrating their courage, recognizing their contributions, and reminding them that Belville stands with them, always.”
Whiteville
There will be a Veterans Day Appreciation Service at the Columbus County Historic Courthouse in Whiteville on Monday, Nov. 11.
The community is welcome to come out and help honor local veterans.
The event starts at 11 a.m.
Southport
The St. James Richard H. Stewart, Jr. American Legion Post 543 is hosting its annual Veterans Day ceremony this morning. The event will begin promptly at 11 a.m., rain or shine.
This year’s guest speaker is Lieutenant General (US Army Ret.) Charles Luckey. General Luckey served for 43 years and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1977. He was commissioned as an Infantry officer and served in a variety of assignments, including combat tours in Operations JUST CAUSE, DESERT STORM and IRAQI FREEDOM. He now lives a retired life with his wife in Jacksonville.
Monday’s event will take place at the St. James Community Center on Route 211.
