WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Area school systems are changing schedules because of impacts of Tropical Storm Debby.
New Hanover County Schools
New Hanover County Schools will be on a two-hour delay on Friday, August 9. Buses will pick up two hours later than normal.
SEA-Tech, Isaac Bear and WECHS will not release early.
Brunswick County Schools
According to a release from Brunswick County Schools, Brunswick County Early College High School will use remote learning on Friday.
For eleven and twelve-month staff members at all other locations, Friday will be an optional workday. All buildings will be open from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. for employees who choose to report to work.
Pender County Schools
Pender County Schools will be closed, and all athletics and after-school activities are also canceled for Friday, August 9.
Penderlea School and Pender Early College will continue with virtual learning classes on Friday.
“Staff may report to work at their worksite location on Friday morning, but only if they feel safe to travel. While the weather has impacted the entire district, we recognize that conditions vary, and employees should exercise caution when traveling to their place of employment. Employees who cannot safely travel to work and need to work virtually should contact their supervisor for approval,” a PCS announcement states.
Bladen County Schools
According to a release from Bladen County Schools, a decision on school operations for Friday, August 9 will be made by 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8.
Columbus County Schools
Columbus County Schools will be on remote learning for Friday, August 9.
Whiteville City Schools
Whiteville City Schools and school offices will be closed on Friday, August 9.
The district administration will make a decision later about sports activities set for Friday.
Brunswick Community College
Brunswick Community College and all campus locations will open at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024.
“OneStop Student Services will be working remotely and are available for any assistance. They can be reached at onestop@brunswickcc.edu. This closure includes the Dinah E. Gore Sports & Aquatics Complex and the Odell Williamson Auditorium,” a BCC announcement states.
Cape Fear Community College
All Cape Fear Community College classes set for Friday, August 9 are canceled, and the Bonnie Sanders Burney Child Development Center will stay closed on Friday.
“While campus facilities will be closed, CFCC staff will be available by phone and email to assist students,” a CFCC announcement states.
Southeastern Community College
The school administration has not yet made an announcement on schedules for Friday, August 9.
Bladen Community College
The school administration has not yet made an announcement on schedules for Friday, August 9.
