WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A Wilmington man is facing several charges following a New Year’s Eve traffic stop, according to officials with the Wilmington Police Department.
A news release states that officers were patrolling the 1000 block of Wright Street around 7 p.m. when they spotted a stolen 2020 Nissan Altima with Pennsylvania tags leaving the area.
“As soon as they got behind the vehicle, the male driver pulled to the curb and took off on foot. With the help of the WPD K9 Unit, officers were able to apprehend the suspect without incident,” according to the news release.
Police searched the vehicle and found a .38 revolver under the driver’s seat.
Dequan Williams, 27, was arrested on the following charges:
- Possession of firearm by felon
- Felony carrying a concealed weapon
- Possession of a stolen vehicle
- Resist/delay/obstruct an officer
- First-degree trespassing
- Driving with a revoked license
Police say he was booked in the New Hanover County Jail under no bond.
