WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Wilmington police have found a shotgun that was stolen from an officer’s patrol car while he was responding to a domestic dispute early Monday morning.
A citizen called 911 Wednesday to report the weapon was found in the bushes near Maides Park. Officers were able to confirm it was the same gun that was stolen earlier in the week.
The shotgun was stolen early Monday morning when an officer responded to the 3800 block of Princess Place Drive around 4 a.m. When he returned to his vehicle, the trunk was open and the shotgun case inside was empty.
The stolen gun was a 12 gauge Remington 870 with a black synthetic stock and black barrel, which is a standard-issued police shotgun.
The investigation is ongoing.
