WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A driver was hospitalized following a rollover crash on Market Street Sunday morning.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, the driver veered into oncoming traffic and over-corrected, which caused her vehicle to strike a power pole in the 4700 block of Market Street before flipping over. The crash happened around 9:20 a.m.
The driver, Laura Taylor, 44, was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police say she is recovering, as of Monday morning.
The westbound lanes of Market Street reopened to traffic around 11 a.m., however Duke Energy crews were forced to cut power to the intersection of Market Street and Kerr Avenue to make repairs to the power pole. This caused traffic backups most of the day.
Work will continue on the power pole on Monday, police say.
The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
TRAFFIC ALERT 🚨 Beginning at Lullwater Dr., the westbound lane of Market St. is currently closed due to a wreck involving a telephone pole. Please avoid the area for the remainder of the morning.
