WPD: Man admits to fatally shooting neighbor, victim identified

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A man admitted to fatally shooting his neighbor early Saturday morning, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
A news release from the police department states that officers responded to a ShotSpotter notification in the 800 block of Walnut Street just before 2 a.m.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the victim, identified as 30-year-old Robert Shorter Jr., dead from a gunshot wound.
Michael Lynn Nelma, 63, admitted to investigators that he fatally shot Shorter Jr.
Nelma was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder. He is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.
No other details about the shooting were released.
