Arrest made in fatal weekend hit-and-run in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Wilmington Police Department has charged a man in connection with a deadly hit-and-run early Saturday morning.
The police department says Richard Wayne Cathey III, 26, was walking along South College Road around 2:23 a.m. when he was struck by a black vehicle near Wilshire Boulevard. The driver of the car kept going after the collision, police say.
Cathey was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center but later died from his injuries.
Mitchell Carlton Walker, 28, was taken into custody early Monday morning at a home on Cameron Court and charged with hit and run resulting in serious injury/death.
He was booked into jail under a $50,000 bond.
Walker is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.
