WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) -The Wilmington City Council will vote on a resolution at their meeting on Tuesday, August 2, that could help the New Hanover County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (ABC) with the enforcement of liquor law violations in the Central Business District.
The proposal would have the City of Wilmington enter an agreement with the ABC Board to authorize five Wilmington Police Department officers’ enforcement of ABC laws in areas that have seen an increase of visitors at local bars, restaurants, and breweries.
Under the agreement, the officers would assume non-exclusive responsibility to ABC law enforcement, specifically from the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge to the Isabel Holmes Bridge and from 5th Street to the Cape Fear River
The officers assigned would also complete training required by State Alcohol Law Enforcement prior to working under this agreement.
