Vacant Oak Island home significantly damaged in Tuesday night fire

OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – Oak Island officials say a vacant home suffered major damage in a fire Tuesday night.
According to a news release, the Oak Island Fire Department responded to a call about a structure fire at a home in the 6700 block of West Beach Drive just before 8:50 p.m. When crews arrived at the scene, they found the home fully involved.
Crews from the St. James Fire Department and Sunny Point Fire-Rescue assisted the OIFD with extinguishing the fire.
Officials say no one lived inside the home at the time and no injuries were reported. Nearby homes were not damaged.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing but it’s not considered suspicious at this time, officials say.
