UNCW launches esports program

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – UNCW launches a first of its kind program in North Carolina, offering new eSports certificates.

Dr. Ray Pastore said the electronic sports industry is rapidly growing and the certificate program will help those who want to work for companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Twitch and even the U.S. military.

“We are trying to get students jobs and help them with their future and this is a really growing field and it’s really new,” he said. “They’re going to learn about eSports. They’re going to learn about the industry in general, how to write proposals, how to create a business plan, how to market, how to be an influencer, how to use social media, how to use video and streaming technology and software and how to coach, how to put together teams, really everything involved in the industry. There are so many different things one can do in this industry right now.”
