WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Two schools in New Hanover County were briefly evacuated on Friday, according to district officials.
Students attending Codington Elementary off Carolina Beach Road were evacuated around 10:20 a.m. due to an unspecified issue with an on-site generator.
“New Hanover County Fire Department and NHCS maintenance crews on the scene assessed the situation and cleared the building for the return of students and staff at approximately 10:30 a.m.,” the district stated in a news release.
Around 12:20 p.m., students at Walter L. Parsley Elementary off Masonboro Loop Road were evacuated “due to the detection of a suspicious natural gas odor on campus.”
Crews responded and cleared the building, which allowed students to return to their classrooms at approximately 12:30 p.m.
The schools both notified families through the Blackboard Connect 5 emergency notification system.
No injuries were reported during either incident.
