SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) – After first declaring a State of Emergency Friday night, Southport Mayor Joseph P. Hatem updated the proclamation Saturday to include restrictions on public gatherings and a discontinuance for short term rentals.
According to the city’s Facebook page, the Board of Alderman gave the mayor their unanimous support during a special meeting Thursday.

The update dictates there should be no more than 10 persons gathered at public parks or along the waterfront until further notice and any groups should maintain social distancing of 6-feet.
Short term renters of less than 3-months must leave by 2pm Sunday and there will be no new rentals until further notice.
In addition, all city buildings in Southport will be closed starting Monday, March 23 until further notice.
