WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The New Hanover County Public Defender Office joined public defenders across the nation in a protest against police brutality Monday.

Members of the local public defenders office gathered for a moment of silence on the steps of City Hall at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The moment of silence lasted 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time the police officer charged with murder in George Floyd’s death had his knee on his neck.
