Oak Island PD encouraging well-wishes after chief tests positive for COVID-19

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – COVID-19 has hit the Oak Island Police Department, Police Chief W.L. ‘Speedy’ Ingram is fighting the virus according to the department’s Facebook page, now, the department is rallying residents to show their support.

“COVID-19 has been a devastating pandemic, which the Town of Oak Island has worked tirelessly to help protect our residents and visitors from. Now that work is being done from within, as our Police Chief, W.L. (“Speedy”) Ingram continues to fight his own battle with the menacing virus,” according to a post.

The department is asking those to show their support by using the hashtag SpeedyStrong.

“However, one thing that defines a community, is when no one fights alone. Please feel free to join us in sending your thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes to Speedy, by tagging your posts of support using the #SpeedyStrong hashtag.”
