WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – At least one full busload and several other individuals traveled from the Wilmington area to hear President Trump speak and be present in Washington D.C. this week as the results of the 2020 election are to be certified.
John Long says he left Wednesday afternoon before things took a turn when rioters entered the Capitol building forcing elected officials and their staffs into lockdown.
“No one that I know would storm the capitol,” John Long said Wednesday afternoon while driving home to Wilmington.
Long experienced a very different scene Wednesday morning as thousands of President Trump supporters gathered.
“The reason that I went up there is just that I want the integrity of our vote to be counted,” he said. “The majority of people that I talk to. That’s why they were there. Just praying for the country, really. Trying to bring some unity back. Some common sense things.”
He says he and thousands of others went to D-C to hear President Trump speak and to express their frustrations with the 2020 election results.
“I’m definitely for peace,” Long said. “I’m a Christian and I want positive things to happen but also want some integrity to happen and I’m also an American and I want our votes to count if we actually vote and that’s what the people went up there for, I believe, just to let their voices be known. We feel like we’re disenfranchised.”
