CDC recommends masks in public settings

SOUTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA (WECT) – Hospitalizations in North Carolina due to COVID-19 continue to remain high as statewide cases reach 129,000, according to data released by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.
State health officials reported that 1,167 people currently are hospitalized due to the virus. N.C. has seen 1,000 or more hospitalizations every day since July 5.
NCDHHS also reported an additional 1,127 laboratory-confirmed cases for a statewide total of 129,288. N.C. has reported 1,000-plus new cases every day since June 24.
An additional 40 deaths were reported on Wednesday for a statewide toll of 2,050, according to the NCDHHS.
The NCDHHS says 1,873,668 tests have been completed.

At least 93 deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported in the Cape Fear region:
- Columbus County – 46
- New Hanover County – 20
- Brunswick County – 17
- Bladen County – 7
- Pender County – 3
