WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A Wilmington driver is facing DWI- and drug-related charges following a wrong-way crash near the Isabel Holmes Bridge that sent two people to the hospital Thursday night.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, Renaldo Prescott was driving a Penske box truck across the bridge eastbound when he struck a pickup truck that was traveling southbound on North Third Street.
The impact of the crash caused the box truck to flip on its side.
The driver and passenger of the pickup truck suffered injuries including fractured femurs and head trauma, and were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Prescott, 33, was charged with DWI, felony serious injury by vehicle, possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of marijuana, and going the wrong way on a one-way road.
He was booked under a $35,000 bond.
Traffic in both directions was shut down for over four hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
