CHADBOURN, N.C. (WECT) – After years of infamy, the house at 545 Dessie Road has been demolished.
Columbus County Sheriff’s Office investigators say that three murders have occurred on the property. One person died last September in a shooting that also injured two others.
Just a few months ago, a judge placed a restraining order on the property. Now, it’s set to be demolished after the house was officially declared a nuisance. With demolition completed, the property will be turned over to the Columbus County school board.
“It simply had gotten to a place where enough was enough, and we had to act,” said District Attorney Jon David.
Columbus County Sheriff Jody Greene says aside from the drugs and violence, the house was a danger to those who lived there and had several code violations.
“Children actually sat in cars at this residence while the mother and father were inside by narcotics or using narcotics,” Greene said.
David hopes that the now-destroyed home sends a message and helps to bring down crime in Columbus County.
“We are going to aggressively target folks that are dealing drugs out of their house and that, exceptional cases like here, you can lose your property and have it demolished,” David said.
The house was demolished Friday afternoon.
