ROCKY POINT, N.C. (WECT) – A Rocky Point man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting on Sunday, according to the Pender County Sheriff’s Office.
A news release from the sheriff’s office states that deputies responded to 87 Wild Turkey Trail after receiving a report of shots fired just after 5 p.m.
When deputies arrived, they found a female victim outside of the residence with an apparent gunshot wound. Paramedics responded and attempted live-saving measures on the victim, who was identified as Carlene Brannon, 40, of Rocky Point.
Brannon was later pronounced dead at the scene, deputies say.
Daniel Lewis Willoughby, Sr., 67, of 82 Wild Turkey Trail in Rocky Point, was taken into custody and after investigation, charged with one count of second-degree murder.
Willoughby is being held in the Pender County Jail under no bond at this time.
No other details about the shooting have been released.
