Three charged with murder in Oleander Drive shooting and wreck

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Three people are charged with first degree murder after a shooting led to a major car crash which shut down Oleander Drive for several hours Sunday afternoon.
Police say Daiquan Jacobs, 23, was shot while in his car around 1 p.m.
He’s believed to have passed out. His car sped up to roughly 100 miles per hour before it went off the road and hit a retaining wall, fence and tree. Jacobs died at the scene.
Montaisha Sutton, 18, Dequan Mullins, 18, and Tyquan Mallette, 19 are each charged with:
- 1st degree murder
- Possession of stolen firearm
- Shooting into an occupied vehicle
Mallette is also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.
Mallette, Mullins, and Sutton appeared in court Monday morning and were ordered to be held without bond. The judge also granted the District Attorney’s request that Mallette and Mullins be held separately in the detention center.
