Contractor damages pipe causing discharge of untreated wastewater

LELAND, N.C. (WECT) – A pipe was damaged by a contractor boring into the main causing discharge of untreated wastewater from Stoney Creek force main along Highway 17 on December 22.

The breach resulted in discharge of approximately 1,300 gallons of wastewater that flowed into an unnamed tributary that leads to Goodland Branch.

The overflow was reported to the North Carolina Division of Water Quality by H2GO.
