SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) – Charles Miller has taken the oath of office to become the newest legislator representing southeastern North Carolina in the General Assembly. Superior Court Judge Jason Disbrow administered the oath to Rep. Miller, with his wife Patty and granddaughter Finley by his side, at the Southport Community Building.
Rep. Miller will represent District 19 in the North Carolina House of Representatives. The newly redrawn district covers the eastern portion of Brunswick County, along with the western and southern parts of New Hanover County. Rep. Miller defeated Marcia Morgan in the 2020 General Election by winning 58 percent of the vote. He had to resign as a member of the Brunswick County Board of Education to assume the new office.
“I am both honored and humbled to have been elected to represent the citizens residing in NC House District 19,” Rep. Miller said in a news release. “After serving 33 years in law enforcement, most of which as Chief Deputy, and 14 years on the School Board in Brunswick County, I’m excited for the opportunity to serve the people in a different capacity. I look forward to continuing to grow the communities in New Hanover and Brunswick counties through my support of public safety, quality education, infrastructure enhancements, and economic development.”
Rep. Miller will assume office on January 13 when lawmakers report to Raleigh for the ceremonial start to the new General Assembly session.
