Two-hour delay for many county schools Friday

By WECT Staff | February 18, 2021 at 4:35 PM EST – Updated February 18 at 7:28 PM

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Brunswick and Pender County schools will be operating on a two-hour delay on Friday, Feb. 19.

Brunswick district officials said the delay is necessary “due to the threat of dangerous road conditions and potential flooding in the early morning hours from extensive overnight rain in our area.”

All staff and students in Brunswick and Pender, both in person and remote, will operate on the two-hour delay.

“This will give more time to access the conditions of travel for all parties in daylight conditions and ensure the safety of both students and staff,” the district stated in a news release.

Pender County Schools made the call after local emergency services advised there was potential for rising floodwaters. Teachers and other school staff members are to report to campus as conditions allow for safe travel.
