Bladen County school board extends remote-only learning to Feb. 15

ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. (WECT) – Citing the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the county and state, the Bladen County Board of Education unanimously voted at its Monday night meeting to extend the district’s remote-only learning plan (Plan C) to at least Monday, Feb. 15.

The board originally wanted to transition from remote-only learning to Plan B, with an AA/BB schedule, on Jan. 25.

In addition to worries about the rapid spread of the virus, the board stated it had “additional concerns that arose from the conversation among the board included staff and student health safety, and the operability of a school should there be a significant number of staff on quarantine or isolation,” a new release stated.

“The effect of the holiday break — family gatherings and events — is now beginning to be a concern about the availability of staff,” according to the news release.

The board’s next regularly scheduled meeting will take place on Feb. 8, at which time the board will re-examine the data and metrics before deciding whether to remain remote-only or transition to another plan.
