BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) -The Beaufort County Commissioners approved a motion Monday for the county manager to come up with a plan and rules to allow county employees the ability to carry a gun in many county buildings.
The vote was four to two.
Commissioner Stan Deatherage made the motion saying it is for the protection and safety of all county employees.
He said many county buildings have signs that say “gun-free zone,” which he says could entice someone to enter the building and take advantage of the situation.
He says this resolution is to harden people and employees.
The next step is for the county manager to look at surrounding counties with similar policies and come back with a plan and rules for the commissioners to vote on.
