CALABASH, N.C. (WECT) – An 18-year-old was killed in a single-vehicle crash in southern Brunswick County late Tuesday night, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
Troopers say Elliott Stephens of Ocean Isle Beach was driving his 2012 Chevrolet Colorado truck east on Thomasboro Road near Blackwater Drive outside of Calabash at a high rate of speed when he crashed around 11:20 p.m.
Stephens reportedly lost control of the truck, ran off the roadway to the right, struck a ditch and overturned. Troopers say Stephens wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the truck.
He was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C. where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
There were no passengers in the truck and no other vehicles involved in the collision.
