BURGAW, N.C. (WECT) – On Monday, June 10, town leaders in Burgaw will host a grand opening for the newly-renovated Town Center.

The Town Center is located at 108 East Wilmington Street. The building underwent $1 million in renovations, and town leaders are encouraging the community to come out and tour the facility.

“We just want to invite the community to stop by, take a look inside and we hope to dedicate this building to the community,” said Mayor Olivia Dawson.

The Town Center was the former EMS Building, home to the Pender Rescue Squad. Dawson said most of the original building was demolished because of old age but the town kept the original framework.

She says the town held meetings at the train depot while the building was under construction.

“Although that’s a great space it wasn’t ideal for meetings. We’re real excited to have a nice board meeting room that will sit the town board myself and our commissioners. But to also have a comfortable space for our residents and the community to come in and hear the meetings appropriately and speak as they see fit,” said Dawson.

Town leaders have been using the building for a year, but Dawson says they just put on the finishing touches. The facility will also serve as the town’s emergency operations center.

Dawson says the ribbon cutting marks the beginning of Blueberry Week in correlation to The North Carolina Blueberry Festival that starts on Saturday.
