WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A lane of S 16th Street is closed Thursday morning, July 18, as crews repair a water main in the area, according to the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority.
Per CFPUA, the righthand lane of S 16th Street is closed between Nun and Church streets. Approximately 20 customers in the 400 and 500 blocks of S 16th Street are under a precautionary boil water advisory.
“Periods of low or no pressure in the water distribution system increase the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system,” CFPUA states. “When under a boil water advisory, customers are asked to boil their water for one minute, then allow it to cool prior to consumption. Alternatively, they may use another water source such as bottled water.”
Consumption includes:
- Drinking
- Brushing teeth
- Making ice
- Food preparation
- Fruit and vegetable washing
- Pet consumption
- Baby formula preparation
You do not need to boil water for showering or bathing.
“Before a boil water advisory is lifted, CFPUA lab staff test the water to ensure it is safe to drink. The lane closure reduces traffic to a single lane of travel is expected to last approximately six hours while crews complete the repair,” CFPUA adds.
