SHALLOTTE, N.C. (WECT) – One family in mourning is pleading for justice after someone killed their loved one earlier this month.
His name is Jaquin Bethea. He’s from Brunswick County. Bethea was shot and killed on Aug. 6.
Bethea’s accused killer is still on the loose. Bryan Goodwin is wanted for first-degree murder in connection to Bethea’s death. He’s been on the run for weeks.
Per the BCSO, Goodwin is 30 years old and 5 feet, 7 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says Goodwin should be considered armed and dangerous.
That’s the reason Bethea’s family is pleading for the public’s help, and praying that justice is served.
“My son was a loving person. He was not mean. He didn’t hate anybody. He was just a loving person,” said Bethea’s mother, Kimberly McNeill.
Bethea’s family is now seeking justice.
“I want somebody to turn him in because he don’t need to be on the loose and kill nobody else. He needs to be caught and put away,” said McNeill.
The family is also seeking answers.
“He shot my son down in cold blood. He didn’t care. He shot him three times, two times in the chest and one in the head. Why you had to do that?” said McNeill.
Bethea’s family is trying to make sense of a senseless act of violence.
“Yeah, it’s still unreal. Right now I don’t even get it. I wake up in the morning, I be waiting for his call, and just not there. It’s not real. It’s not real to me right now, I still feel the pain every time I think about it,” said Bethea’s brother Jamar Bethea.
It’s a pain their family says they will carry with them forever.
“I’m gonna miss my baby. Yes, I am. I’m going to miss him,” said McNeill.
Investigators have not released a motive for the shooting.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office says there is no update on the search for Goodwin.
Anyone with information should contact “Det. Hill at 910-713-6071 or call 911,” a BCSO announcement states.
