Identity released of dead man pulled from pond near Cinema Drive

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A dead man was pulled from the pond on Cinema Drive on Thursday, July 4, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Per the WPD, units arrived just before 6 p.m. to the pond, located next to Wilmington Fire Department Station 3, after personnel at the fire station located the body.

Police identified the decedent as 30-year-old Christopher Thomas Smith.

No evidence or signs of foul play were identified. After speaking to people in the area, police suspect that impairment could have been factor.

An autopsy will be performed to try and determine the cause of death.
