BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecasted a high rip current risk for all Brunswick County beaches on Tuesday.

According to the NWS, the forecast was issued on June 10 and red flags are flying from Bald Head Island to Sunset Beach.

The NWS says red flags mean life-threatening rip currents are likely and the surf zone is dangerous for all swimmers.

NWS offers the following tips if you find yourself caught in a rip current:

  • Yell for help.
  • Remain calm.
  • Do not tire yourself out.
  • If you have to swim out, swim parallel to the shore.

Yellow flags are flying on beaches in New Hanover and Pender County, meaning there is a moderate risk of rip currents.
