PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Heide Trask football head coach Lawrence Ches has resigned, the school system announced Tuesday morning, Nov. 19.

Ches led the Titans for three seasons, finishing with a 20-13 record.

The team had winning seasons every year under Ches, and earned playoff berths each year. Heide Trask has already begun the search for a new head coach.

“After much deliberation and careful consideration, I have decided to resign from my position as the Head Football Coach here at Heide Trask,” Ches said. “First, I would like to thank the players from the three seasons that we had together. Without them believing in and trusting our vision, we would not have been able to achieve three, consecutive winning seasons, also obtaining a North Carolina State playoff berth in each of those seasons.

“Also, I would like to thank Christopher Howell and Principal Michael Taylor for taking a chance on hiring and providing me this great opportunity to coach and mentor such high-quality young men. Lastly, I would like to thank our football staff, booster club and assistant coaches, without their time and dedication the program would not have been able to make such strides in such a short amount of time.”
