Pope Francis is on a goodwill tour, specifically reaching out to Indigenous and First Nations people. His Holiness is attempting to atone for the atrocities that took place in Canada’s Indigenous residential schools. The residential school system took more than 150,000 Indigenous children out of their family units. They were forbidden to speak their native languages. Almost half of those schools were run by orders of the Catholic church.
